preach it

And even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools? Would we go with James Dobson’s, or Al Sharpton’s? Which passages of Scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is ok and that eating shellfish is abomination? How about Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount - a passage that is so radical that it’s doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application? So before we get carried away, let’s read our bibles. Folks haven’t been reading their bibles.

livejournal: cutting back

some people saw the post and some didn't, about trimming down the friends list. it's nothing personal, except for one person, and if you have to wonder, it's not you. they know. i stuck with real life/austin friends and a few people that i interact with at least somewhat regularly. for people where we don't really 'talk,' i trimmed there. i hardly post here anymore, which is part of the whole deal too.
this is why you're an idiot if you think 1. what passes for 'health care' in this country befits a first world country and 2. that sexism isn't affecting people's lives. this makes me want to punch someone.

it's a shameful time to live in the united states.
DIAF, you fucking waste.

The Western Pennsylvania legislator said he detected that agenda in this phrase: "one in six women and one in 33 men have experienced an attempted or completed rape."

Metcalfe's objection, which under House rules meant the bill was sent back to committee, mystified the bill's sponsor and angered groups that advocate for victims of domestic violence and for gay rights.

"His comments show incredible insensitivity about what domestic violence is, combined with bigotry against lesbians, gays, bisexual, and transgendered people," said Michael Morrill, executive director of Keystone Progress, an advocacy group in Harrisburg.

Morrill said he was urging supporters to send faxes and e-mails to Metcalf's office demanding that he apologize to Pennsylvanians for his remarks.

Metcalfe, in an interview yesterday, said he opposed the resolution because it went beyond what he considered traditional domestic-violence programs that help battered women and children.

wow. homophobia and misogynistic denial of reality rolled into one. men can't be abused because it makes me uncomfortable! we're better than those bitches and queers! good sir, fuck you. i want keith olbermann to see this.

quoted for truth.

this comment makes a good point, relating to one i've thought about. why is it that those of us with liberal values are berated and made to feel like we're mean and should be ashamed of it, while the loudest uber conservatives have no shame in spouting off anything they want, whether or not it's true? why does even the discourse of generation x seem to require more work, more proof, and more perfection from liberal thinkers? why do the idiots get a pass? granted, some of my liberal acquaintances (*ahem*amanda*) not to mention suzie and the captain, will go full force and say 'you're talking crazy shit.' but it just seems that there is a burden on those who value truth, equality, independence, and fairness to somehow justify wanting things to be BETTER FOR EVERYONE. wtf.

Honestly, I still can’t get over how rude these people are. The few liberals in my family are always careful not to talk about politics at family gatherings, but our conservative relatives have no such qualms. At Christmas dinner they’ll talk about abortion and how global warming is a hoax and how black people are the real racists, while the rest of us keep mum because we don’t want to turn a mostly peaceful gathering into a shouting match. Predictably, these conservatives are also very quick to anger when you challenge them. Gently suggest to my dad that he might want to check out a different source for more accurate info, and he’ll fly off the handle. It’s so frustrating to be unable to defend yourself because you’re unwilling to make a scene or burn bridges with family members over something like politics.

oh the huge manatee

read it, or shut the fuck up. not all opinions are created equal. calling it an opinion doesn't make it valid.

ignorant people be pissing me off today.

feminism fail

wait, what, this twit thinks she's a feminist? ohhh uh bite me.

‘At work, gender should not come into it. Women are right to refuse to make the coffee, but when you get home I’m afraid you have to make the coffee.

oh honey, i don't have to do jack shit.

‘It’s such a waste of time trying to tell your husband to pick up the socks or clean the loo. It’s much easier just to do it yourself.’

that's right, enable their childish behavior! they don't act like adults because you do everything for them! people will keep doing what you let them get away with. this is one way that ruben's newspaper to the nose carries some weight.

She once told women not to expect orgasms but to fake them and still praise their lover.

BAHAHAHAH BITCH PLEASE. damn right i expect it, and if i'm not getting it, we're either gonna fix that or i'll stop wasting my time. if the goal isn't for everyone to enjoy it, why bother with involving another person? and faking it, oh HELL no. you don't praise a puppy for peeing on the rug. XD faking it guarantees he will ALWAYS do it wrong.

‘Women want boyfriends to be like their girlfriends, fun to go to the pictures with, but men are not like that. They want sex and they grunt. If you really want a man to be nice to you, never give him a hard time, never talk about emotions and never ask him how he is feeling.’

wow. the feminists i know have much higher opinions of men than this. funny how that works. i thought we were the man-haters, so why are we the ones who expect more from men and respect them as humans? anti-feminism is so babyish.

real men take responsibility for themselves. i will call out anyone who wants a mommy figure as the manchild they are. and enablers like this woman just help perpetuate men acting like children.

as usual, amanda says it best:

"We hate men so much we think they’re people. What I fail to understand---when I hear anti-feminists scold the little ladies about our supposed illusions that men could ever actually like, much less love us---is why on earth, if men are so horrible, women should associate with them? Even for straight women, in Weldon’s world, expecting sexual satisfaction out of men is ridiculous. From this interview, from what I can tell, Weldon thinks men have absolutely nothing to offer women. Not sexual pleasure, not kindness, nothing but more socks to pick up. The only reason it works is anti-feminists think even less of women than they do of men, and thus are capable of believing that women are so incredibly needy and stupid that we’ll cling to men who give us absolutely nothing, so we can lie to ourselves and pretend that it’s possible that anyone could love us. Bleak worldview, indeed. "

be nice
